Songs about Life
The idea for this post came to my mind while listening to the song Runaway Train by Soul Asylum. The song is obviously about drug addiction, but it explains the dark moments when we feel down in the dumps, not knowing if things are ever going to be OK. It’s that moment that we know we messed up, but we are not sure if we will ever be back on track.
Then I thought - there are many songs that explain the moments in our lives that all of us face frequently. If you happen upon a song that perfectly explains that moment at exactly the moment you are feeling it…well, this is a list of those songs.
I am not planning on explaining each song and what each song is supposed to make you feel. Instead, I will pick a couple of words from the lyrics that I think gives the gist. Hopefully, that will lead you to listen to the song and more importantly, the lyrics. There’s a bonus Russian song at the end. The songs are in no particular order.
I can’t get to sleep, I think about the implications
Of diving in too deep, and possibly the complications
My, my, my it’s a beautiful world, I like swimming in the sea I like to go out beyond the white breakers, where a man can still be free
Runaway train never going back, wrong way on a one-way track…
…I run away but it always seems the same
… and anywhere I go, there’s always something to remind me
Of another place and time, where love that traveled far had found me
5.Cat Stevens - Father and Son
You’re still young, that’s your fault There’s so much you have to know
… we all went to heaven in a little row boat
There was nothing to fear and nothing to doubt…
I know the pieces fit ‘cause I watched them fall away
Dolls of voodoo all stuck with pins
One for each of us and our sins
Mama she has taught me well …told me when i was young
“son your life’s an open book, don’t close it ‘fore its done”
A pig .. in a cage .. on antibiotics..

Красная, красная кровь — через час уже просто земля,
Через два на ней цветы и трава, через три она снова жива.
